Dealing with Holiday Stress – Putting Things in Perspective

The holidays should be a wonderful time of year where we all get together with those we love to enjoy delicious meals and fun gift exchanges. In reality, the holidays can be quite stressful for many of us. You may be trying to clean your home for guests who are coming to visit. You may be responsible for making a big Christmas dinner this year. Of course, buying gifts has its own type of stress. From worrying about spending too much to stressing out over getting the right presents for each person, we often find ourselves just wishing it would be over with as soon as possible.

Putting Things in Perspective

Though there are no hard and fast solutions for some of these issues, it can be helpful to just step back, take a deep breath and put things in better perspective. Remember that Christmas and New Year’s should be fun. Take some time for yourself. Even though the weather may be cold and miserable, go for a short walk each day. Take some deep breaths, close your eyes and really focus on being joyful regardless of the work before you.

Relaxing Projects

Whenever possible, take some time for yourself and work on an enjoyable project, such as a relaxing hobby. Learning to watercolor or paint with acrylics is fairly simple and you can get lessons in your neighborhood or training online. Activities like these are often used by therapists to help those struggling with mental or emotional distress. Activities where you create something beautiful, such as sculpting, writing, painting, or ceramics utilize your right brain. This is your creative side coming out and we all need this from time to time regardless of what type of job you have.

The holidays can be a wonderful time where you make some lasting memories with those you love. But it can also be a time where you work too hard and worry too much. Strive to keep a good balance this year so that you can make the most of this holiday season. Sometimes a relaxing massage can make the whole world look brighter, so don’t forget about Atlanta Spine Center. Please call us to schedule your next appointment.
