Common Causes of Headaches

Common Causes of Headaches

Everyone has a headache from time to time. It’s usually brought on by stress. We get too busy going in too many directions, and then suddenly, your head hurts. Most of us reach for a few over the counter pain relievers like Motrin or Advil and this takes care of it. But there are many other causes of headache and children are now experiencing headaches almost as frequently as adults.

Primary headaches are brought on by over activity or dysfunction in the pain sensitive regions of the brain. Secondary headaches can be caused by just about anything. Though we can get used to the common headache, the truth is that you shouldn’t get headaches daily, on a regular basis. If you are, then see your doctor. There might be an underlying cause. Below are just a few of the more common headache triggers.

A Slip and Fall or Car Accident

Anytime you fall on ice or rough pavement, it causes a jarring to your whole body, especially your neck and spine. Auto accidents where a car hits you from behind can cause whiplash. Both of these conditions should be treated right away. If you leave your back, neck or spine in a state of misalignment, this can cause other physical ailments to arise. See a doctor right away. Usually with a good massage and regular Chiropractic adjustments, you can make a full recovery.

We’ve all had this headache. You may have celebrated New Year’s Eve or your birthday just a little too much. Believe or not, researchers are still not certain why we get a headache when drinking too much. They offer some pretty good options though, such as dehydration, lack of sleep, and the accumulation of acetaldehyde. You may also feel tired, irritable, nauseous and anxious. The cure is simple. Keep your alcohol consumption within reason. There are thousands of favorite cures for this type of headache and some go to the extreme.

Vision Problems

Straining to see and read things each day can also bring on a headache. You’re over-using the eye muscles on a regular basis. That straining can bring on a headache quickly. Get to an eye doctor and get glasses or contacts.

If you’ve recently taken a hard fall, this can cause a backache, headache, and neck pain. This is treatable but don’t let it go too long.
